JOB SUMMARY

Performs moderately complex graphics design duties requiring planning and scheduling of projects and operation of software for developed and packaged graphics pieces.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Designs and produces visual materials, including but not limited to large posters, banners, flyers, brochures and annual reports.

· Produces artwork and layouts for written publications and products and other visual materials; researches and obtains photographs, artwork and illustration to be used.

· Advises staff on creative graphic options.

· Performs record keeping of all work.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the moderate to general supervision of the Graphic Service Supervisor or other Manager as assigned.

No formal supervisory responsibilities, but may act as lead worker, train new employees, and/or review the work of Trainees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with a degree in Graphic Arts or other related field(s).

One or more years of progressively responsible related experience in graphic design (an incumbent with less than one year of experience is a Trainee).

Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of the principles of design for production processes and printing techniques.

Ability to meet both short- and long-range deadlines; Ability to independently prioritize projects and recommend the most efficient techniques; Ability to communicate with vendors, City officials and staff; Ability to communicate ideas effectively, orally, with art, or in writing.
